The Power of the Polisher

I'm very excited about the Slash 7 project! She's almost stripped to the frame at this point and I'm polishing cases all over the place. It's amazing what a little elbow grease will do for a 34 year old motorcycle...Besides being therapy for me..

It's pretty easy to imagine what the engine will look like when it's complete.

These risers are almost 40 years old!

Polished on the left, old shit on the right.

The Slash 7 is coming along nicely

The motor is in pieces and I have been dabbling in polishing.. And thanks to a BCM tech piece posted on ChopCult, I'm making good progress.. Pics to follow soon.

Vintage Czech goodness...

OK, I bought this tank off EGay about 10 years ago. I spent A LOT! It has the original paint and has never had gas in it. I can't say this enough, it's NICE! I think it might fit nicely with my new obsession...

The new bible!

http://www.hpn.de/english/english.html

I suspect mice....

So, what happens when you open up a motor that hasn't been open in 34 years? You find an airbox full of dog food.

And so it begins.....

Before this ridiculous chopper thing took hold of me, I was into old  BMWs. They're cheap, robust, and plentiful, so they're perfect for loser builders like me. Ah Germany, just saying the name elicits visions of beautiful women, weird porn, delicious beer, and amazing engineering.

I bought the subject of this build about 10 years ago from the uncle of a good friend of mine. Uncle C is a Mercedes mechanic so all his shit runs beautifully. I scored "Helga" for $2 grand and have never had a lick of trouble from her. She has been a daily driver, weekend tourer, and accompanied me on the 2007 El Diablo Run. So what do you do with a bike that runs flawlessly and asks for nothing in return? Yep! Chop her!

The inspiration for this build is a combination of the bike on the previous post and the amazing machines shown on the HPN website. I need a long distance work horse that will start every time, carry a ton, and NOT make me push her across the border (remember the 2011 EDR?).

I plan on posting the "progress" here so all my friends can laugh at my shoddy mechanical acumen and foolish bravado.

Helga before the rape.

Look at amazing fabrication skill! See the almost factory seat support?

Leave it to the Germans to put the brake master cylinder and mechanism under the tank.

As I deflower Helga, I am again amazed by the quality of the parts. And the attention to detail the engineers in Berlin have is unrivaled.

Inspiration!

Damn! Look at this war horse! I gotta get going on the Slash 7!!!

Got Creativity?

I think it is common knowledge that I have peeves. Little things get under my skin perhaps more than they should. My latest gripe has to do with taking other people’s intellectual property, changing it slightly, and claiming it as your own. You know what I’m talking about, right? Yep, I’m talking about the “Got Milk?” ad campaign. This campaign ran in 1993, and is considered one of the most successful ads in history. According to the Got Milk? website, the campaign has over 90% awareness in the US and the tag line has been licensed to dairy boards across the US since 1995. So here’s my problem, as I drive around Southern California (with my phone that boasts a bitchin camera) I see countless businesses stealing this tag line and shouting to the world, “Hey look at me, I don’t have one original thought in my head!” I once believed that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but not anymore. I’ve stopped believing. I hope Journey doesn’t get pissed.

Messerschmitt

Willy (yes, Willy) Messerschmitt didn't just design kick ass fighters for the Luftwaffe. Oh no....
After World War II, Messerschmitt factories were devastated. Following the capitulation of Nazi Germany, he was arrested in 1945 for his involvement in the Hitler regime. Messerschmitt was then tried in a Nazification court in 1948 where he was found to be a "reluctant beneficiary" of the regime. "His company temporarily left aviation due to the postwar ban on aircraft production, and his firm produced prefabricated housing and sewing machines." However in 1958, Messerschmitt returned to his life long love of making aircraft and between 1968 and 1969, the Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm company was built with Messerschmitt as honorary chairman.

Whatever...I just think he built cool shit...

The Power of Norton...

These look like relatively nice young ladies. What cold they possibly see in two young hoodlums like these? And just look at Johnnie Switchblade there copping a cheap feel...Good for him...

Re-Birth

We ALL love old helmets right? They're cheap, they look cool, they don't protect shit in a crash, etc.
BUT! One of the bad things about old helmets is the liners deteriorate and leave foam crumbs all over. No problem! Look what the talented Rene Chavez at Primo Helmet Designs can do! Beautiful? Give him a call...

Look what ACME Choppers does with a Hinkley Triumph! I JUST sold my Street Scrambler, now I regret it! Not that i could build anything this cool...

Porn...

OMG! We're missing it! Oktoberfest is going on RIGHT now!

I fucking missed it again. I swear the year I grow some balls and actually buy a plane ticket to Munich will be the year they cancel it.
